BAM: Advocate and Watchdog
Article II, Section IV (2016)

“Staying Engaged”
When the 2016 legislative session ends, it is important for members to stay engaged in the legislative process. The 2016 state legislative races in Minnesota offer the perfect opportunity to do so. This summer, BAM’s statewide membership can influence the outcome of the 2016 election, while building strong relationships with lawmakers in both the MN House and the MN Senate. Get involved and stay engaged!

As part of BAM’s contemporary and sustained government affairs program, we encourage our members and local association staff to connect with their local legislative delegation to volunteer for door knocking, lit-dropping, and phone-banking, as well as other ways of volunteering for campaigns statewide. These tools are invaluable to our association, are hugely appreciated by the candidates, staff, and party officials, and build political capital for you, your business, and our association. Your advocates at BAM are happy to help coordinate such activities.

2016 is an important election at every level—from national to local—and member participation in the electoral process is essential for continued industry visibility and influence. We must keep the building industry in the forefront of the minds of legislators via a statewide volunteer effort. One afternoon spent volunteering with your local candidates is time well spent!

We aim to build as much political capital as possible with our friends at the legislature. Having our members mobilize statewide is essential to further building and strengthening relationships with those who make the laws of our state, and regulate our industry. Plus, door-knocking is a great way to spend the day outside, get some exercise, and meet your neighbors!

This summer, take the time to volunteer. To learn more about volunteering with state legislative races around the state, please don’t hesitate to contact me at, or call my cell at 612-248-4463. Stay engaged!
