First Aid (3 hours)
This course will teach participants to react to medical emergencies involving shock, bleeding and wounds, poisoning, burns, heat and cold related injuries, bone and joint injuries, and medical emergencies. This course is suitable for anyone who wants or needs basic first aid knowledge as part of their job requirement or their own personal information.
Accomplishment of these goals will be measured through practical exercises
CPR Adult (Heartsaver) (3 hours)
This CPR course is designed to instruct the participant to perform basic life support to an adult victim of a cardiac emergency, along with the training for use of an AED. The course teaches only those skills to provide care to the adult victim.
The course meets the standards for American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the National Safety Council.
The curriculum consists of instruction and practices in:
- One rescuer and CPR
- Physiology and prevention of heart disease
- Adult foreign body airway obstruction
- Body substance isolation
Instructor
This session is being offered through Minnesota State Community and Technical College. Instructor Everett Patterson has been employed as a firefighter/EMT with the City of Fargo for 21 years. Everett is also a HazMat Technician since 2002 and a member of the Fargo-Moorhead HazMat Team. He has been teaching Fire and HazMat classes for Minnesota State Community & Technical College for 13 years.
